Our homes are safe and dry and comfortable. They are not luxury, they are a real world model of what affordable is at entry level. We price our fees to line up under standard rental rates. We strongly encourage our residents to pay their own way as soon as possible. We do not like taking outside support. By holding fees to a rate that can be afforded on around minimum wage we create a real opportunity for independent living.
In our area $200 per week is the average cost of a shared bedroom in a halfway house. At $10hr working 40 hours a week take home pay is about $280. This is not sustainable. Financial stress is real. If the housing program cannot be paid for by the resident than it was not designed with the resident’s financial best in mind. We know that the best way for people to reclaim their lives is to support themselves and gain that autonomy.
